Excessive sweating treatment in Mississauga

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating beyond what the body needs for temperature regulation. It is a recognised medical condition, not a cosmetic complaint, and it responds extremely well to the same neuromodulators used for expression lines, placed instead into the skin of the affected area to interrupt the signal to the sweat glands.

Because Skin&Co sits inside a dermatology practice, hyperhidrosis is assessed as the medical problem it is. That also matters for insurance: many private plans cover this treatment with appropriate documentation, and we can provide it.

When we say no

When we decline
hyperhidrosis treatment.

We do not treat in these situations, and we will say so in the consultation, which you are not charged for.

  • Sweating with an underlying medical cause that has not been investigated. We look for that first.
  • An active skin infection in the treatment area.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  • Certain neuromuscular conditions or medications, which we screen for.
  • Anyone expecting sweating to stop entirely. It reduces substantially, which is usually life changing, but it is not zero.

Questions

Hyperhidrosis Treatment
questions, answered.

The Skin&Co consultation room in Mississauga
Is hyperhidrosis treatment covered by insurance?

Many private plans cover it with appropriate documentation, which we provide. Coverage varies by plan and usually requires that antiperspirants have been tried first. We will tell you honestly what to expect before you commit.

How long does it last?

Four to nine months, with underarms typically lasting longest. Most people treat once or twice a year.

Does it hurt?

Underarms are very tolerable. Palms are more uncomfortable and we can use a nerve block. The injections are shallow and quick.

Will I sweat more somewhere else?

Compensatory sweating is a recognised concern with surgical treatment. It is uncommon with injectable treatment and rarely troublesome when it does occur.

How soon does it work?

Three to seven days for the first change, with full effect by two weeks.

Can I still exercise?

Yes, from the following day. The treated area sweats less, the rest of you behaves normally.
